Extension Langside
A rear extension and remodelling of an end-of-terrace house, Glasgow Architect: Daniel Bär — 2023
Extension Langside is a single-storey rear extension and part-remodelling of an end-of-terrace house in Langside, on Glasgow's southside. Designed by architect Daniel Bär and completed in 2023, the 60 m² project replaces a former rear addition and detached garage, reorganising the ground-floor circulation into an L-shaped sequence that opens into a combined kitchen, dining, and living space. Horizontal sandstone courses contrast with vertical zinc cladding seams on the façade; the garden — framed by mature hedges and boundary walls — takes visual precedence over the building itself.
I photographed the Langside extension shortly after completion, working through the interior and the garden across the course of a day. The building recedes — the garden, the boundary walls, and the patina of Glasgow's Southside tenements do the rest.
