Scenic Herefordshire
Three holiday houses on a working farm, Orcop Hill, Herefordshire Architect: Daniel Bär — 2022
Scenic Herefordshire is a development of three modular holiday houses on a working livestock farm at Orcop Hill in the rolling hills of southern Herefordshire, with views extending across eight counties. Designed by architect Daniel Bär and completed in 2022 for client Betts Court Retreats, each unit is clad in black-stained timber with a dual-pitched roof and interiors lined in birch-faced plywood. All three were manufactured entirely off-site in modular sections — complete with pre-installed kitchens, bathrooms, underfloor heating and wiring — and craned into position in a single day.
I photographed Scenic Herefordshire in late summer, working across the site over the course of a couple of days. The landscape does most of the work and the cows were kind enough to pose for a couple fo shots. The units sit low against the hillside and the horizon is always present.
